Rev John Butterfield letter to accompany September 2015 preaching plan

Dear friends,

Happy New Year!   That may seem a strange greeting for the autumn but as you will all know the Methodist church year begins on 1st September and not in January!

This year there is a fresh start for the circuit as we welcome a new superintendent minister who will be living in a new manse. We welcome the Revd Nick Baker and his family as he comes to work in the circuit from Yorkshire.

We are of course grateful for all that the Revd Mary Patterson has done in the eventful years she has been a minister and subsequently superintendent of the circuit. Throughout her ministry there have been many changes in the circuit and change will continue to happen under Nick’s guidance and leadership. I believe that it is important at new year not to look back with either nostalgia or regrets but instead to look forward with hope and expectation of what God can achieve through the Methodists in this part of the connexion. I suggest that our Methodist new year resolution should be that we will support and work with Nick as he leads the circuit forward into whatever the future may hold.

All good wishes,

John Butterfield.
